SufiCorner is honored to host Dr. Mukhtar Ali for a lecture on The Ethics of Becoming: Forming the Self through the Divine Names. In this session, Dr. Ali will explore how the Divine Names (Asma’ al-Husna) offer more than a theological enumeration—they present an ethical template for the human being in the process of becoming. Grounded in the classical Sufi tradition and engaging contemporary philosophical reflections, the lecture will consider how the human self is cultivated through the embodiment of divine attributes. This is not an abstract exercise, but a transformative practice, wherein the seeker mirrors the qualities of mercy, justice, wisdom, and beauty in their journey toward completion (kamāl).

Following the lecture, there will be an open Q&A session and an opportunity to engage directly with Dr. Ali during a book signing of his latest work, Philosophical Sufism: An Introduction to the School of Ibn al-ʿArabī.

About the Book

In Philosophical Sufism, Dr. Mukhtar Ali explores how the school of Ibn al-ʿArabī united spiritual experience with philosophical rigor. Covering Ibn al-ʿArabī’s views on existence, knowledge, and the human journey, the book traces the development of his ideas through major commentators and their influence across the Islamic world. Accessible yet comprehensive, it is an essential introduction to the intellectual and spiritual legacy of one of Islam’s most profound thinkers.
